Common Name: Forest Flame, Lilly Pilly
Availabilty: In Stock
Your heart will set on fire for our Acmena Smithii Forest Flame! A variety of Lilly Pilly which is a beautiful Australian native shrub with glossy evergreen foliage and bright red tips on the new growth of the plant which mature to a deep green. Small, fluffy white flowers bloom throughout the summer months, followed by purple and white berries which are super attractive to local birdlife. This cheery little fellow is a beautiful Aussie native alternative to the brightly colourful Nandina.
Growing up to 2 m in height, this tasteful tree is dense enough for topiary and also ideal for hedges, colour contrast, screening and in outdoor containers. For a robust hedge we recommend planting around 1.5 m apart to maintain a compact form, and trimming to 1.5 m tall to retain a thick and glossy growth habitat. The plus is that regular pruning will result in consistent stunning bright red new growth (or should we say Gro-WOW-th in this case?!). Once established the Forest Flame is fabulously low maintenance and adapts to most environments including drought and frost. And of course, like all popular Lilly Pillys, pest and disease resistant! You'll be hard pressed to find something much better than hedging than the humble Lilly Pilly, set your garden game on fire with the Forest Flame!
Drought, frost and lightly wind tolerant. Most well drained soil types; mulch in Summer. Prefers full sun to part shade.
We apologise, but this is not available to South Australia due to quarantine restrictions.
