Carissa macrocarpa cv. Desert Star, or just 'Desert Star' as she can be more commonly known, is a hugely popular evergreen shrub. Small white, highly fragrant flowers bloom in abundance through spring and summer, in the iconic 'star' shape that this plant is named for.The flowers remain on the shrub for a prolonged period which is very desirable to local bird and insect life.
Other than the pretty flowers, delicious fragrance and robust foliage growth, the main attraction to the Desert Star is that it is extremely hardy and deters animals or pests. Bright green thorns make it ideal to plant around areas of the garden you would like to keep pests, pets (or children, we don't judge *wink*) out. Growing 1 - 2 metres tall it is ideal for pest or pet deterrent, low hedging, borders and protective planting.
Mildly frost tolerant, wind hardy. Most soils, adapts to dry conditions. Full sun, part shade.
