Common Name: Tropical Wisteria, Evergreen Wisteria, Sandpaper Vine, Purple Wreath, Queen's Wreath
Availabilty: In Stock
The truly stunning Petrea volublis is a gorgeous woody-stemmed evergreen creeper, masses of purple flowers bloom in cascading clusters and putting on a magnificent display throughout the warmer months. The flowers are strongly reminiscent of wisteria flowers, whilst papery speckled large-leafed foliage is attractive year-round.
This creeper is ideal planting to grow along arches, trellises, over pergola's or fences. Will remain mostly upright with beautiful weeping branches if planted in a pot with a stake. Easily trained into a shrub shape with some regular pruning, and popular as a bonsai variety. Growing up to 6 - 10 metres long, but easily kept under control with a prune after flowering.
Thrives in subtropical climates, protect from frost during establishment. Once established this variety is quite robust and can adapt to drought, but may not be able to flower as profusely in drought-impacted conditions.
Humidity hardy, drought tolerant. Most well drained soils. Full sun to part shade.
