Common Name: Mount Spurgeon Black Pine, Black Kauri Pine

Availabilty: In Stock

The very rare and lovely Mount Spurgeon Black Pine is an evergreen Australian Native pine variety, hailing from North Queensland. This tropical pine variety has stiff and glossy fern-like foliage in a herringbone pattern, that develops in an upright growth habit and creates an attractive slender silhouette. He is a member of the Plum Pine family, so does produce small purple-blue fruits on occasion.

Stunning in formal landscaping, lovely planted in rows lining driveways, container growing or feature gardening. Adapts to indoor gardening with aplomb, and can be happily potted up and used as a gorgeous living Christmas Tree alternative indoors in a well-lit location. This versatile variety is also a great Bonsai variety.

A slower grower, with a max growth of approximately 6-10 metres tall and approximately 4-5 metres wide in gardens and cooler temperatures, but can soar up to 20 metres tall in the wild. Despite his tropical origins, once established he can adapt to cooler temperatures as far South as NSW and ACT. Low maintenance once mature.

Low maintenance. Humidity hardy. Moderately frost and salt tolerant once established. Most well-draining soils, enjoys acidic bases. Full sun to part shade.
